Practical Computing was formed in December, 2002 to serve the IT implementation, maintenance, and planning needs of small businesses and local government agencies in Elizabeth City, NC and surrounding areas. The name “Practical Computing” was chosen to emphasize our common sense approach to computing. We realize that IT systems are business tools and should be reliable, as simple as possible, and cost effective. Furthermore, we take pride in our ability to communicate with our clients in non technical terms, unlike many technicians who babble in jargon.
We offer traditional business computer and network support, phone systems, server monitoring, secure remote access, and secure backup systems. We provide services to a wide range of current customers and accept new customers with 5 or more business computers. In addition to providing services and fixing equipment, we take the time necessary to form a long term relationship with our clients. Essentially, we get to know their operation and goals and use our skills and services to facilitate efficiency and growth in their businesses.
About the staff:
Practical Computing is operated by a friendly, full time staff of three along with a few sub contractors. Our full time staff includes Jesse and Rachel Stallings.
Jesse is a native of Camden County, NC and has been working full time with IT systems since 1996. He worked as a Network Consultant at Tidewater Computer and Network Engineer at Currituck County Schools before founding Practical Computing. Jesse is the senior technician as well as a managing partner.
Rachel is a native of Greenville, SC, and has lived in Idaho and France. Rachel joined Practical Computing in 2010 and is our office manager and bookkeeper. Rachel keeps our clients informed of progress on projects, accepts and schedules work orders, and maintains the company finances. She has a critical role in our business and is well received by our clients.
